So far this month we have had 15 Intakes: 6 cats, 8 kittens, and 1 puppy. That makes 74 total for the year. Ridley the puppy came in last Thursday, he sure is a happy little guy. Friday came littermates Cagney & Lacey. Cagney is a tortoiseshell & Lacey is a calico about the size of the 3-Ps (Pierce, Paul, & Precious). Yesterday came Frisky & Gigi, not related, but the same size. We are guessing them to be about 8 wks. Frisky's name truely fits her, she is a live wire taking on the likes of Taffy single handed! She is white with dark tabby spots and a brown nose, looks like a little bear. (I 'll bet she gets adopted in about 2 wks). Gigi is the opposite of Frisky, she is gray with white feet, chest and face, like Zane. Gigi is a little timid and scared, not at all quiet. She yowled like a hound dog because she couldn't figure out how to get off the tower. Today Alice took in a blind kitten, Homer, orange & white, he went directly to Alice's house. Then Fancy was returned today because their puppy was tormenting her. Hmmmm!

We have had 10 Adoptions for the month: 4 cats and 6 kittens. That makes 58 Adoptions for the year. Last week Cree and Sassy went to their new homes. Sunday Roscoe was adopted. Monday Pierce went to his new home, then Maya went home today.
Had a family out today looking at dogs, Mom and 4 sons (14 to early 20s), they lost a dog recently to cancer. They spent almost 2 hrs with Ridley, Cade, and Austin. I was impressed listening to them discuss each dog. Ridley is a young energetic puppy that will have to be housebroken and chew on everything. Everyone liked Cade & Austin both, but decided to take Austin on a test drive because of his size. Mom will be the primary caregiver so they wanted someone who wouldn't over power her. They also looked at Spuds for a moment but moved on when I told them he is high energy and all muscle. They wanted a dog that wasn't a barker . . . ahem! Believe it or not Austin was the only dog that didn't bark at them. They have cats but feel he will learn to be tolerantt and the cats can handle Austin and put him in his place. (They have claws!) Let's pray this is a good fit for Austin.

The Annual Spring Yard Sale has been postponed until May 30-31st and will be held at Kram-Den Storage. The storage unit is filling up but we still need more donations. Volunteers are needed to work the sale and the sanctuary during the sale, along with pricing items. If you have some spare time (lol) during the next week, feel free to come on out to price some items. (See, I have a sense of humor!)
Congratulations to all our graduating Seniors this year: Stephanie Devore, Edward Haney, and Pierce Robertson (and anyone else I may have missed). You are our shining stars that will brighten the future for us all! Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary is proud of each and everyone of you and wish you all the best of luck as you step into the world!!
Enough of the mushy stuff! In the coming weeks be sure to check the Sunday editions of the Southeast Missourian newspaper for Safe Harbor residents to be featured as Pet of the Week. I am not sure how this will work, but I don't care as long as we get our wonderful animals seen. If anyone would like to suggest a favorite to be featured just let me know. As always, I welcome any and all feedback, good or bad.
Last weekend Alice and son Christopher with the assistance of Ed tore down the old make-shift dog pens and moved the free-standing kennels onto the paved pads. Good job everyone! They look really nice and I know it was a lot of work.
My brain is fizzeling out so I better quit while I am ahead. Have a great rest of the week everyone!!!
